Are you considering employment with Nebraska State Government?

Temporary employment !

What is the SOS Program and What can we do for you?

Specialized Office Services (SOS) is the State of Nebraska’s Temporary Employment Program. SOS is designed to serve the temporary needs of the State agencies, as well as assist YOU in obtaining employment. The SOS Program provides an excellent opportunity to "get your foot-in-the-door" with the State while gaining valuable skills, abilities and experience.

SOS is continually recruiting for applicants to fill temporary clerical, vocational, technical, information system, and professional level positions. The State needs temporary assistance for a variety of reasons: to fill-in for permanent employees who are on leave, to work in grant-funded positions or for special projects, to fill in for short-term increases in workload, to fill in during interim periods when an agency may be advertising and filling a permanent vacancy, etc.

We rely on applicants who possess skills in many areas, including:

accounting

create reports

customer service

data entry

data processing

desktop publishing

develop spreadsheets

filing

inventory control

install software

payroll

process mail

recordkeeping

schedule appointments

shipping/receiving

transcribing

typing

word processing

What do you need to do to sign up?
  1. The first step towards being considered for the SOS Program is to complete a State application form (see link above). If you have a current application on file, please read on...
  2. The second step towards SOS is to contact our office to set up an interview. As part of the interview process, all applicants must take both the typing and data entry tests, as well as participate in a brief interview so that we may gain a better understanding of your experience, skills, and abilities.

Interview appointments can be scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

State Personnel is located on the first floor of the Nebraska State Office Building, 301 Centennial Mall South, Lincoln (between 14th & 15th and L & M streets). If you are interested, please call us at 402-471-2075 during regular business hours to schedule an SOS interview.

What background and reference will be conducted?

Employment reference checks will be conducted on all applicants interested in the SOS Program and criminal background checks will be conducted prior to hire. Once your references and background checks have been completed, your interview and application materials are entered into our active pool of available candidates for the SOS Program. From there, we begin the search to match our vacancies with the applicants who best fit each position.
